In Italy we have a say: "A tavola non s'invecchia," which mean "At the table, one does not age."
We believe this to be true. We come from a country where coming together at the table is not a simple gesture of survival. The "tavola" represents a social setting, where one nourishes body, mind and spirit alike. It is the place where the family gathers daily, to discuss the facts of the day, or where generations of people spend a Sunday together, learning about the past and growing together. The "tavola" is a symbolic center where friends reconnect. It isn't coincidental that many italian movies have a dinner scene in them.
But food, in Italy, is as important as the social process that takes place at the table. Fresh food, made with ancient recipes, with natural ingredients. After all, one must nourish the body as healthily as the mind.
